Yara must go!
Quoting from today's (January 19 2010) Nigerian Guardian, here's our friend, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, enjoy!
Meanwhile, a member of the House representing Oredo Federal constituency in Edo State, Patrick Obahiagbon, yesterday re-echoed the call for the President to comply with the provision of Section 145 of the Constitution by writing formally to the National Assembly about his health status and allow Jonathan to act as President..
Addressing a press conference in the National Assembly, the lawmaker declared: "I speak not against President Umaru Yar'Adua nor do I speak for Vice President Goodluck Jonathan. But I speak robustly for the stability of our polity. I speak on the side of constitutional democracy. I speak for the reclamation of our nation state from the hands of apostles of political gambadoism, and I speak against providing an opportunity and ready excuse for power adventurists and unbridled constitutional putschism.''
Asked whether his position would not conflict with that of his party, PDP, he said: "We would have PDP and other political parties only when there is stable democracy. I have just spoken in support of constitutionality. The PDP constitution and the party itself must be subordinated to the clear position of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic."
He continued; "Since no mortal has the responsibility for his health infrastructure, it would amount to a glaring and depreciable poverty of spiritual obesity for the president's state of health to attract public odium rather than compassion, and it is against this background therefore that as part of humanity, I deeply commiserate with Mr. President and his family, and do wish him a speedy recovery. I am however ... bewildered that rather than Mr. President's compassionable ambience, or pitiable situation, reawakening in us a sense of national unity and cohesion, what we have seen is a situation where national centrifugal forces have been malodorously unleashed on the country." According to him, undue overheating of the polity is being encouraged by a section of the political class who have chosen not to learn from history.
"Otherwise, why would Mr. President or his gatekeepers not advise him to have recourse to Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution, which, if acted on, has the efficacy of conferring the status of an Acting President on the Vice President.
"Mr. President may not be in the proper state of mind to have averted himself to Section 145 when he sought medical attention in Saudi Arabia, but having, to the glory of God, been strong enough to sign the supplementary budget and talked to the BBC, is it out of place for Mr. President to muster the same energy in the implementation of Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution, and thus enabling his Vice President to function as Acting President?" he queried.
Need I say more.....?

Yara the Cat with Nine Lives
Once upon a time there was a sick cat named Yara. Yara was the Grand Imperial Leader of Catland. Yara was a very weak cat, but don't tell Yara that or he will scratch your face. Yara did not want to believe or be told he was weak, so Yara carried on. But every so often Yara will need to check in with the vet to recoup whenever his ailment took a turn for the worse. And on several of those occasions it had been severally rumored that Yara had died while at the vet, but each time Yara the cat bounced back to the amazement of all his detractors and fans. Yara hailed from the northern part of a country called Catland. They were approximately one hundred and fifty million cats from Catland. The Cats were from very diverse backgrounds and spoke many different cat dialects. Yara was from a part of Catland that had dominated the leadership of Catland and continued to control the affairs of Catland. A lot of the other cats from other parts of Catland resented Yara for this and whenever Yara went on one of his trips to the vet they would call for his resignation. It also did not help that Yara was a very weak cat physically and politically. Catland had been experiencing turmoil ever since they gained 'self-rule' from the Dogs. The Dogs had ruled Catland for a long time before finally giving in to pressure and handing over and letting the cats begin a period of self-rule. The cats had clamored so much for self-rule from the Dogs, believing that they could rule themselves better, but ever since they took over the reins of their own government there was total chaos in Catland. The supply of catfood dwindled, rats disappeared from the rat farms, in fact a lot of cats starved to death. Crime spiraled out of control. Poverty, sickness, and squalor reigned. The few fat cats who ran the show grew fatter amidst the increasing corruption and wanton abandon. But the fat cats didn't care. they just got fatter. Some where so fat that when they sat they just rolled over like a soccer ball. Yara was one of the fat cats. But Yara was a sick fat cat.
One day Yara got sick and sneaked away to the vet on one of his visits. One day passed, One week passed, One month! Catland became very restless. Where is Yara? Was the questions on all the cats lips. since Yara became imperial ruler of the order of catland he had never spent that long at the vet's. Rumors started to spread that Yara the sick fat cat had passed on to the great beyond. Catland was in a state of chaos. The other fat cats fearing an uprising started to spread rumors that Yara was actually hale and hearty and that he was just taking a well deserved rest, but Catland wasn't buying the story. The clamors got louder. But no word from Yara. 50 days passed by, and the rumors were getting louder and louder. All of a sudden Catland media broadcasted an audio with a recording of a voice purported to be that of Yara claiming he was recovering well and would be back very soon to assume his rightful position as Grand Imperial Ruler. Catland was still split with a lot of disgruntled cats not satisfied with the explanation. Some claimed that the voice was not Yara's others said Yara or no Yara, "Yara must go"!
While all of this turmoil was going on in catland, a stray cat from catland haad gone to Dogland and attempted a failed attack (in protest of what he percieved as inhumane treatment of cats worlwide by the dogs) on the establishment there. The stray cat was apprehended and Catland was blacklisted in the international animal kingdom, and the cats were subjected to inhumane behaviors every time they attempted to visit or travel through Dogland. With all of the chaos in the animal kingdom between the cats and the dogs, Yara was no where to be found to engage the dogs diplomatically. The president of Dogland, a hybrid breed, his father was a cat and his mother a dog, had earlier became the president of Dogland against all odds. the dogs believed themselves superior to the cats and would have never let a cat or offspring of cats ever rise the position of president. But change had come to Dogland as a lot of restrictive policies had been relaxed and half dogs were allowed to engage in the doggy political process. After the failed stray attack the dogs blacklisted the cats from Catland, and the cats cried for the Yara's intervention on behalf of his country, Catland. But after a very loud silence from Yara, the rumors even got stronger that Yara had died, because it was unlikely that after such major Animal Kingdom incidents that Yara would remain silent.
But Yara was a stubborn cat, or was he? For an audio tape purported to be Yara had surfaced in which a voice claiming to be Yara had spoken to the cats of Catland from his sick bed ath vet in a far far away land. This voice was highly doubted to have been that of Yara's, and some even claimed that the voice was a synthesized voice to mimic that of Yara's. Needless to say, after 90 days of absence Yara was still to be seen or heard from by anyone in or outside of Catland. When the cats of Catland got fed up, and fears started to build in the polity based on the rumors of a possible takeover by the armed cats division, the cats of the legislative assembly finally passed a resolution to install Yara's deputy Grand Imperial leader as the Acting Grand Imperial Leader. This was a desperate bid by the cats of the ruling class to forestall any intervention by the Armed Cats division, who were known to be very ruthless in power. It was also a bid by the ruling fat cats to maintain their fat cat status by maintaining the status quo of a pseudo democracy cat-style. There was a lot of turmoil in Catland during this time. Cats loyal to Yara swore to go to any length to discredit or dethrone the new acting Grand Imperial Ruler. Cats loyal to the new acting Grand Imperial Ruler swore to entrench the acting Ruler as the permanent ruler. The saga continues.

Time for Biafra to Rise Again
This Yara-crisis is getting out of hand, and the more I think about it the more I believe the man is long gone and the 'kingmakers' are in a constitutional quandary as to how to expunge the current VP, Goodluck Jonathan, and install another Northern ruler. The longer the nation hangs in the balance leaderless, the closer we get to a major irreversible crisis. I personally I am not opposed to this. Enough is Enough. The North has to go. We've been marginalized for too long. How much can the people of Nigeria take? How can we keep on letting the least amongst us continue to be overlords over us and control the very resources that we stand, walk, sit, and sleep on day and night? I say time's up, and Yaradua might just be the catalyst that Biafra has been waiting for. And this time it might not just be Biafra, there might be Oduduwa, Izon, and so on and so forth. The more the merrier.
The experiment called Nigeria has failed woefully and its time to move on. Lets all go our separate ways. We are way too different to coexist. People make the mistake of assuming that because we all have the same skin color that we all act and think alike. Big mistake. Some of us are like day and night. The experiment of Lord Lugard and his British Empire has failed woefully. The hypothesis has been nullified. This hypothesis is similar to postulating that Britain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Scandinavia, Russia, Turkey, etc can all coexist under the same physical and cultural borders as one state, with the leader always emerging from Turkey. Can you imagine that picture? That is Nigeria.
Its time for everyone to go their separate ways and establish their own unique identities and niche in the world. Foreigners look at Nigerians and assume that we are all the same. Some assume we are all loud and obnoxious, some think we are all boasters, fraudsters, scammers, etc etc etc And now thanks to Farouk AbdulMutallab we have even been classified on the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism along with countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Cuba, and Saudi Arabia. I am from the South, and I am not a Muslim, so what do I have to do with Islam or terrorism? Why do I have to bear this scourge? Enough. It's time for Biafra I say. The time is now. Where is MASSOB when you need them? How long are we going to sit down and be content with mediocrity? It gets to a point where your life is not worth living if you can't live it with basic human dignity. This is getting embarrassing; 50 years and nothing to show for it. Its time to pick up the sword, machete, gun, whatever, and if the ruling elite don't want it then off with their heads. Let everyone fend for himself. The South is sick of breastfeeding this country with nothing to show for it. When a woman has a baby, she breastfeeds it, and eventually that child grows up into an adult, and takes care of mama. Nigeria has been breastfed for way too long and is showing no signs of growing up. It's time to dump this baby. This baby has been sucking breast milk for 50 years and is now in a state of coma. This baby obviously has the symptoms of growth retardation. How many mothers will continue to breastfeed their own babies for so long with such results?
The experiment has failed, it's time for a newer experiment that is backed with a more sound hypothesis and some empirical data. Look at all the great countries of the world and you will notice one thing; they all have a unifying language and culture. And that language and culture is not foreign to them. So do not tell me that we have English. It's even a shame that I have to write this in English. You can argue that some of the great countries have more than one language or culture, true, but they do not have 250 different languages and cultures! And they all have one major indigenous official language, even if they might have 3, 4 or 5 minor languages and cultures. The monstrosity that is Nigeria with over 250 languages and cultures is a giant failure. The Europeans carved out Africa in the 19th century purely for their own economic gain. They had no regard for the local cultures; they simply 'shared' the continent amongst themselves for their own profit. That's why you will find Yorubas on both sides of the border to the West of Nigeria into Benin and Togo and Fulanis all across West Africa stretching from Nigeria to Ghana and beyond. These are all different cultures with different identities, who do not all seek the same results or solutions. These cultures have all been forced to coexist or in other cases been split across artificial boundaries. Europe did not care, but we do, and we see now that it is not working and will not work. We are no more in the jungle running around naked with bones in our noses, we've all been educated and it is time to chart our own destiny. We can't sit down and wait for 'AID' from Britain and USA. That era is over. Why should they even help us? So we can compete with them? We have all the resources and brainpower to be just as powerful, just as successful, and just as great as them if only we applied ourselves. But easy money from oil wealth has made us apathetic to progress and hard work. We are just comfortable with milking the oil profits. We adapt to any situation with no resistance. No light? We buy generators. No water? We dig bore-holes, No roads? We buy 'Jeeps'. SAD.
All of this mediocrity can be tied to the fact that there's no real identity with Nigerians. I'm a Nigerian really means nothing except that you belong to a collection of several different hundred tribes in the same geographical location. There's no real associated pride with belonging to a culture. Even the tiny shred of culture that we have managed to strand together as a sovereign nation has evaporated. The prevailing culture especially among the youth in Nigeria is American culture - gleaned form MTV and the lowest common denominator of American entertainment culture. There is no concrete foundation for the youth to sink their roots in and develop. That is why we get blown each and every way the tide blows. No identity. Most kids born in Nigeria today, who live in Nigeria, cannot speak nor understand their own languages! Contrast that with Latin American or Asian American kids born and raised in America who are bi-lingual - fluent in both their parents languages and the language of their adopted country!
Now if we had several sovereign entities come out of this monstrosity called Nigeria and each with a unique and homogeneous identity then we will start to see a sense of belonging and national pride. Maybe parents and kids won't be ashamed to learn or speak their own languages for fear of being teased by some imbecile kid from another culture who only speaks English and thinks you are not civilized, because you understand and speak your own language. With a sense of identity and pride then there will be motivation to do more for your nation and to apply yourself more. Without it you will have the mediocrity that is Nigeria today, where a national culture is almost non-existent, and we are easily swayed by whatever comes on American or British Television.
With the Yaradua crisis unfolding I hope this is the catalyst we've been waiting for to make that giant leap. If it happens it will not be pretty and lives will be lost, but nothing good comes easy. For America to be truly great lives were lost in the Revolutionary War as well as the Civil war. Both wars were fought on principle and the principled prevailed each time. There can be no real revolution without bloodshed. While we do not pray for bloodshed it is a necessity for us to reach the Promised Land. Rawlings did it in Ghana. He sanitized the ruling elite with the sword, and now Ghana has now overtaken Nigeria in development and leaving us in their wake. Nigerian kids go to school now in Ghana and even Togo. Are we without shame? Yaradua is most likely done. The 1999 constitution says the next person in line for the presidency is Vice President Goodluck Jonathan (as much as I can't stand his wimpy ass). Are we going to sit down and watch these same shameless power-huggers bamboozle us again and do nothing about it? This is the time. Pick up your swords. It's time for WAR. It's DO or DIE. It's time to stand up and be counted. Nzogbu, Nzogbu, Enyimba, Enyi!

Happy New Year - Prayer for Nigeria
Happy New Year my people, how una dey? I don come again.
We hope this New Year brings you peace, love, joy and prosperity to all of you in Jesus name! Amen. You see, we Nigerians love to pray, especially for Nigeria. We love to pray for Nigeria! We Prophesy! We speak in tongues! But it seems nothing changes.
Oh Lord blaaaaaaaaaaaaawwaaaaaaaawawawawawawa!
Intervene, Intervene, Intervene!
Bo, bo, bo! ho, ho, ho! bra, bra, bra!
Could it be that God is deaf?
Or is he just ignoring us?
Or are our prayers not getting to him?
After all we are very holy people who have a direct line to God
Even the ‘unbeliever’ countries are doing very well
How come we the ‘holy’ ones are in peril?
So, here's a little prayer I wrote for Nigeria, featuring God, enjoy.
(Prayer)
Lord as we begin 2010
we pray that you guide us with your infinite wisdom
to do that which is right for one and for all
we cast and bind all demonic suicide bombing spirits!
any ‘Mutallabic’ spirits we overcome you with the blood of Jesus!
we reject all extremist tendencies!
none of your evil workings will come near us!
this year will be a positive year for Nigeria
we pray that 2010 will herald us into a new era
an era of accountability, productivity, and electricity
we rebuke all political mediocrity and eccentricities
we reject all negativity and welcome only positivity
we claim running water, power, and drivable roads
we reject bore-holes, generators, and pot-holes
we promise to cut down on excessive wayo and shayo,
and focus on solving our problems with fervor and vigor
we will curtail our suyaing, bigstouting, and peppersouping,
instead we will start fasting, praying and all night tarrying
we will sacrifice more of ourselves for the good of our brethren
we promise to apply ourselves to development of our fatherland
in pursuit of ego, owo, kudi, we have blinded ourselves to the blight of our home land
we travel the world, see and enjoy the hard work of others
return home and continue the incessant and unrepentant pillaging of ours
oh Lord why oh why
Some say its the Curse of Ham but I say it must not be
Everyday we sing praises, prayers, speak in holy tongues and it seems to no avail
for we remain viciously locked in the same fate and travails
In-fact Lord I believe we are the 'holiest' people on the planet
in which other country do you have so much faith in the face of utter abjectness
As if blind, deaf, and dumb we continue praying and hoping
but I can't help but think that you are up there laughing and saying:
(God)
My children perish for lack of knowledge
I have given you all that you need to be prosperous and fruitful
If you do not make use of the gifts that I have blessed you with
that which you have shall be taken away and given to the lesser amongst you.
You have been blessed with natural resources beyond your needs.
You have cocoa, rubber, timber, tin, natural gas, petroleum, arable land and more.
And I have given you the brains to harness all that I have provided you for your benefit,
but you seem bent on self-destruction.
Rather than develop, you destroy - resources, land, water, and each other
and you turn around to me and ask for my help and intervention
I have already helped you
Its time for you to help yourself
Have you not heard that I only help those who help themselves?
AMEN
We hope this New Year brings you peace, love, joy and prosperity to all of you in Jesus name! Amen. You see, we Nigerians love to pray, especially for Nigeria. We love to pray for Nigeria! We Prophesy! We speak in tongues! But it seems nothing changes.

AMEN
